Freeview passes Sky

Ofcom's figures for the first three months provide two interesting facts: this week Freeview only homes outnumber Sky homes AND 75% of homes are digital.

Ladies and gentlemen - we are digital

Ofcom's latest digital bulletin shows that there are 10.9 million Freeview-enabled sets, 8.8 million in use and 7.1 million in exclusive Freeview use. Sky's UK figure of 7.7 million at 31st March 2006 can now be extrapolated to today's figures.

That puts Freeview (7,739,941) on just ahead of Sky (7,731,206) for the first time this Friday.

And we can also see that digital penetration (using Sky, NTL cable, Freesat or Freeview) has reach three-quarters of the population.

Well done Freeview, let's all raise a glass to Greg Dyke for being right about this (and the small matter of the government knowing there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq whilst we are at it!)
