What price for an aerial installation?

What prices have you been quoted and paid for an aerial install
published on UK Free TV

In responses to the guideline I posted about how much having a new aerial fitted should cost, Ian Grice posted: "£40-£50? Every aerial fitter I contacted wants at least £150+VAT considering you can get a class 3 aerial for under £10 and a class 2 for under £15 and cable is 40p a metre why are they charging so much for 30 minutes work?"

OK, for some places putting up a TV aerial is hard work, such as multi-story properties. As many people will simply be exchanging a Group A, B, C/D, E or K aerial for a wideband type, often without changing the supporting pole or cable, a high price cannot be justified.

I am concerned that some companies will exploit vulnerable groups (such as the elderly).

So, I what prices have you been quoted for aerial installations? What price have you paid for installation?

Do you know of any companies to avoid? Do you know of any companies that are good value for money?

Or do you work for a great aerial installation company?

Ahhhhh maximum length
Fair enough
No steel brackets don't rust through but do look unsightly when thy get to rusting stage yes 65dbuv is more than adequate and it's not uncommon here in Sheffield now tooto have a really strong signal like that
Can't remember ever using a pressed bracket but see plenty of them (generally with aerials at some peculiar angle)
£45 for an aerial installed? Do you think they will have liability insurance

Oh and as for CAI and RDI I agree- can't see the point I was a member of the RDI for a couple of years and it offered zero benefit too me and I guess to consumers

I've only ever had 1 call insisting she wanted an CAI registered installer so I put her onto a friend who is
Been self employed 12 years now doing this and a lot of work is from recommendations

Still work to the standards apart from WF100 like you I use RG6 regularly

kb aerials: this is what I have to put up with in the Merseyside area, liability insurance you must be joking tax on there van if you are lucky and signing on. Recalls they don't have any because you won't get them back for anything. Pay for yellow pages or thompson all they do is use a mobile and change there name. I feel I do undercharge not had a price rise for over 4 Years but if I put up the price I will lose too much work.

Rob, Mazbar.

The cost of being a 'one man band' member of the CAI in 2013 - 2014 year is:

For 'domestic' installs only £370.80
Domestic installs being private customers in their own homes.

For 'domestic and system' installs £572.40

If you register as a domestic installer and then take on an IRS System, your membership category is upgraded to the higher fee.

Now if a 'domestic member' were to be offered a nice IRS System, would they turn it away because they are not in the correct category?

Ian

Of course they wouldn't

What benefits do you actually get as an aerial installer for being in the CAI

And also what stops someone from
A) joining the CAI then carrying on doing bad jobs?
B) telling people your in the CAI

And how many of the general public have a clue what the CAI is?

I know of companies that were in either RDI or CAI that aren't now but still have their registration numbers on their websites
I could name them now

I've even told the RDI of one such riggers his work is shocking and a year on nothings been done about it

So a toothless organisation at best

My jobs if assessed would meet RDI or CAI standards but who ever checks

Customers rarely look at what you do and never ask what your going g to install
As long as there is a picture on their TV as you leave that'sall they care about

Cowboys know this
Install cheap as cheap can get walk away

Next gust of wind the aerial blows down and cowboy has long gone

the only thing I won't use is rg6, in my area it wouldn't make sense. I could offer a 10 year guarantee I am that confident in my work, however even using the best quality amps etc I still see some fail after 3 or 4 years. we're all here because we're good at and enjoy what we do, cowboys get found out, we get called to fix it. Without cowboys we wouldnt get so much work!
Here's a question for you.
What other avenues of revenue are you guys persuing?
Also I need to get my employee on the relevant NVQ for council work (needs a blue cscs card) Is there a fast track way of getting this? I had to spend 2 years and £1500 to get mine!

My elderly mum has just been charged £359 by action aerials. This was for a new aerial and wire. She only had trouble receiving one channel! She lives in a bungalow so no great climbing. Advert claims £59, so why the difference. She wasn't left with any paperwork, no receipt, nothing! Action aerials.... Con aerials.
