Finally a competitor to Sky Sports News, a not unpopular channel has been launched.

Starting today, Setanta Sports News, a free channel on cable and satellite (but not Freeview) will provide round the clock news for the UK sports fans.

The channel will be particularly welcome in Virgin Media homes - on channel 518, as Sky Sports News took it's ball home from that service earlier in the year.

Freesat (and Sky subscribers) will find the channel on 435.

What do you think of the new service? Does it compensate for the loss of Sky Sports News? Would you prefer this channel to Sky Sports News on Freeview?

There is the vacated daytime ABC1 slot - perhaps Disney will sell the slot to Setanta Sports News?
