Will an aerial booster improve my freeview reception?

Will an aerial booster improve my freeview reception?

No, an amplifier won't normally help with a Freeview signal. Can I suggest the following:

1. If you can raise the aerial up by an extra metre or so;

2. Check the direction of the aerial and that the it is either "vertical" or "horizontal" as required.

3. Check that all the connectors and cables are in good condition, look especially for stray wires from the outer shielding on the cable being loose;

Heres my situation, I have a main telly in the living area which is connected to virgin media. I also have 2 tellys upstairs for the kids,both have freeview boxes. Now the youngest child can recieve around 35-40 channels including dave, e4,challenge etc. The other child in the room furthest away from the ariels can only recieve around 20 channels. Would a booster ariel help him to pick up the remaining channels? We are using the emley moor transmiter

Bobby: You should probably check for Single frequency interference | ukfree.tv - independent free digital TV advice and especially the quality of the cables you are using.

I live in chapel-en-le-frith in Derbyshire sk23 9rz and we swithed over to digital in 2010 yet I have just moved out of my patents home who had sky and bought my own house & tv with freeview built in but can't get many channels ( BBC 1,2,3&4 itv 1&2 ch4,ch4+1 ch5 and e4 only) and on the box my tv came in it listed around 40 channels, why can't I get all of these if we have all ready switched to digital in our area?

Stuart Wood: The number of channels you receive depends on which signals are available in your area and whether you have the correct aerial to receive them. If you have an aerial pointing to Ladder Hill (mounted with rods vertical) you are predicted to have excellent reception on the three PSB muxes only, as this is a Freeview Lite transmitter. You are also predicted to be able to receive all six muxes with good reception (but slightly lower signal strength) with an aerial pointing to Winter Hill- Aerial required is group C/D or wideband, mounted for horizontal polarisation and pointing NW. Reception is subject to there being no obstructions such as trees or tall buildings blocking the signal path.

Hi, I live yorkshire and apparently served by 3 transmitters. Until 6 October everything was fine but now we can't watch anything. No reported problems with transmitters. Why has it all gone wrong? Frustrating that there is no help out there. Thanks

elaine: Emley Moor is shown as the best for reception at your location, however Belmont and Bilsdale are also being indicated as being possibilities for reception, albeit these being in a lesser sense than Emley.

What I would do is either carry out a factory reset to blank out anything stored, or alternatively just carry out a re-tune with out the aerial being connected, then BEFORE re-connecting the aerial carry out a further auto-tune, watching the channels rising in the progress bar, (if visible) then as soon as you see the scan getting to Mux Ch40 immediately re-connect the aerial and this will allow Emley Moor to load.

You might just pick up Bilsdales ArqB / Mux D on Ch42, although if you do not use HD a way to avoid this is to plug the aerial back in again at Mux Ch43 rather than Ch40.

If you still do not receive anything after carrying this out, then this is inclined to suggest that a fault has developed in your aerial system.

vicky: Simply by purchasing a four way powered splitter, connecting the aerial directly to its input and one of its four outputs going to each bedroom, doing it this way guarantees that each set will have the same signal.

Four way splitters are very common, if you use e-bay you will find an abundance of them
being advertised, Argos might even have them although I am not presently in a position to have a look at the catalogue.

This is a link for one on e-bay that I can personally recommend, it having been running 24/7 for the last two years now with no problems whatsover.
