Ben Johnson If you still have Mux2 channels in the channel list under the old frequency your tuner will ignore the identical set of channels on C31 if scanning to add channels. If you don't want to do a factory reset you will have to delete any Mux2 channels from the channel list then do a manual tune for C31.

Carl:As you say if you have the same signal strength but poor or zero quality it points to an interference problem. It is possible that trees coming into leaf have caused the signal to become messy which is confusing the freeview tuner. What is the analogue reception like? If there is patterning on the picture due to a faulty amplifier or other equipment it would also adversely affect the digital signals.Have you checked that the Sky box is not causing any general interference? Interference from other transmitters due to the inversion effect would give poor quality readings but it is unusual for every mux to be affected at the same time. For example C41,C44 and C47 are used at Wenvoe for high power digital and for analogue at Emley Moor and Sudbury But C52 and C55 are not used for high power transmision at any of these sites.Try moving cables and equipment connected to or positioned near the tv to see if anything changes. With regard to channels in the 800s these usually indicate a signal from another transmitter has been found. The Digital UK postcode checker shows that a poor signal on Mux1 from Waltham might be received at your location.

Mrs Thomas: could you include your postcode so the transmitters available at your location can be identified?

JJ: The PE11 area is served by 3 transmitters, Belmont, Waltham and Sandy Heath. On Wednesday 13th April at Waltham Mux2 changed frequency to C31. Viewers need to do a factory reset to clear the channel list then scan for channels. If the box finds Sandy Heath signals first on C24 (498MHz) these channels could be stored in the normal (LCN) slots and the Waltham channels which are found later in the scan placed in the 800s.....Also on Wednesday 13th April Sandy Heath completed step 2 of the switchover. Mux2 became High power Mux D3+4 on C24. As for Waltham, viewers need to do a factory reset then scan for channels. If the channels stored are from the "wrong" transmitter it is best to do a manual tune for each mux.

Tim: According to the Digital UK postcode checker you have a choice of either Hannington which delivers four muxes with good reception until 29th June 2011 when MuxC and MuxD will have a power increase giving all six muxes. Alternatively Crystal Palace gives good reception on Mux1,A and B;variable reception on Mux2 and poor reception on muxes C,D and HD.....For Hannington use a group B aerial with rods horizontal pointing at 288degrees. For Crystal Palace use a group A aerial set for horizontal polarisation at 75 degrees.

timonthenet: The Mux2 service from Waltham now on C31 is still 2k mode. This will remain so until switchover step2 on 31st August 2011. The only reason for the frequency change on Mux2 (and MuxA on 30th March) was to avoid reception problems in overlap areas with The Wrekin which is assigned C23 and C26 for high power use post switchover. It is only very old boxes and IDTVs that do not support the 8k mode that will require replacing by the August switchover. It will not affect more modern HD ready or Full HD receivers all of which support the 8k mode on standard definition transmisions. HD ready tvs will however require a STB that supports DVB-T2 in order to display Freeview HD pictures.

C54 (738.0MHz) after switchover
Saturday 16 April 2011 11:51AM

John: According to the Digital UK postcode checker Mux2 is shown as giving poor reception. The other muxes are shown as good reception (MuxD variable). After 20th July 2011 (switchover step2) MuxD3+4 should give you very good reception, note however that MuxC/ArqA and MuxD/ArqB will become 8k mode but continue on low power transmitters, resulting in a possible reduction in signal level. The COM muxes adopt high power working in 2012.

caroline: If the signal strength now is showing very high you might have too much signal, the power increase is ten times for the PSB muxes and five times for the COM muxes. However if you are having no problem currently with high power MuxBBCA you should be ok after switchover step2.It is perfectly reasonable for some amplification to be used to run 4 tvs and the aerial installer should have installed equipment which would be ok after switchover. If you merely switch off the power or remove the power supply to the amplifier the tvs might mot work at all.

Bob Green: No you have not yet been switched to 8k mode. The Tacolneston transmitter will use 8k mode on MuxBBCA from 9th November 2011 and the other muxes from 23rd November 2011. To see what is happening on the various transmitters that are predicted to give a signal in your area click on the Digital UK tradeview link alongside your post.

Dimitry:The Digital UK postcode checker shows Freeview reception to be available from 3 transmitter sites. If your aerial is pointing at Sandy Heath you should currently have good reception on the PSB muxes only. You would expect to receive additionally Mux ArqB from 14th September 2011, Mux ArqA from 23rd November 2011 and MuxA/SDN from April 2012.If your aerial has vertical rods it is pointing at the Luton relay and should give good signals on the 3 PSB muxes only. If you are using this transmitter check that you have tuned in to C50, C59 and C55 and not signals earlier in the scan from Sandy Heath or Crystal Palace. Similarly if using Sandy Heath make sure D3+4 is on C24. Check channel list in the 800s for duplicate channels that might work correctly. The Crystal Palace transmitter offers all muxes but with poor to variable reception. Another possibility if you have amplification on the aerial is too much signal. Use an attenuator or remove the amplifier if this is the problem. Check the condition of cables and connectors. You really should expect good digital reception if analogue used to be good.
