Moville Saorview transmitter

Peter Henderson:
Hi Peter,
My first time replying on this site, am an installer in Limavady area and yes Moville is still transmitting analogue (RTE1,RTE2 & TG4) in parallel with their Saorview multiplex of eight channels. Their analogue is due to end in October the same as ourselves.
If I can be of any help then feel free to contact me.

Hi Peter,
Okay on that, would say that Saorview should be good enough at your parent's location although the digital signal would be of slightly lower power but tends to penetrate better than analogue.
Had to manually retune a Humax box recently to bring in Saorview off Moville on CH45 as the autotune only logged the UK Freeview so keep that in mind.
Thought you would get Saorview at your home but obviously not. You're likely aware that the RTE mini multiplex is going to be on Black Mountain, Carnmoney Hill and Brougher Mtn so Carnmoney may help you?.

Hi Jim,
If you can tell me the make and model of your HD receiver I should be able to let you know as not all HD receivers and HD televisions are Saorview compatible and not every dealer will inform you of this before you purchase.
Generally speaking, most recent LG and Samsung integrated models are compatible and Humax set-top boxes and the Technika (Tesco) model STBHDIS2010 also.

Peter.

Holywell Hill Saorview transmitter

Hi Martin,
Depends where you are located and your aerial set-up, to receive Freeview at present in your area, you need to have a suitable aerial for your nearest Freeview site which is Limavady. Most places on the cityside are okay but for the Waterside you have best reception the nearer you are to the River Foyle, you may also benefit from a mast-head amplifier prior to the power being increased in October.

Peter.

Okay Jim,
Yes I have supplied many of that model to customers and have three myself at home on analogue televisions. You have to actually highlight and select one of the Saorview channels for the programme info to fill up. If your analogue RTE is fairly good then that 's an indicator that you're in with a good chance for Saorview. Recently did some work in Postboys Walk area of Ballymoney but the RTE analogue was grim, even with a MHA so hope you've more luck.

Thanks Jim and the other Peter,
Just when Peter mentions Holywell Hill, I was at the other side of Stranocum from Ballymoney this afternoon to connect up a Saorview approved digital tv recorder (Walker brand).
I assumed without checking that the only viable RTE digital signal would be Moville on CH45 but it was no go. So tried Holywell Hill on CH30 and to my surprise all the Saorview channels were present at a reasonable strength, so you may check that although it may be. different story in or near Ballymoney town itself?.
Am not sure the RTE transmitters will have a power increase come October but suppose it is posible.

Hi Peter,
I think both Holywell Hill and Moville are indeed on full power but didn't know about those other two, do you know if the VHF service from Truskmore will survive DSO, can't see it somehow. It is still very popular in the more rural parts of the County here where viewers can't access UHF.
