Chris Wright:

Without a full post code we have no idea just how close you might be to the transmitter. If you are quite close, then you may have too much signal and that can cause many problems. So please check what the reported signal strengths are, especially on the channels giving you problems. Ideally you want between 60% and 85%. Less will cause drop outs whilst more will give unreliable reception. If the signal is too strong you can add an attenuator into the aerial cable to reduce the signal.

Paul Purdon:

Unfortunately Sky will not allow your Q box to record anything.

Further, if you want to use Freesat, you will need to have the LNB on your dish changed as Sky Q uses a non-standard system to control the operation of the LNB. However, new conventional LNBs are relatively inexpensive. You can get then with 4 or 8 outputs so that you can use two or more satellite receivers at the same time and record programmes on them as well.

Bob:

Ideally you should use the full service transmitter at Mendip. An alternative is the Freeview Light transmitter at Hutton. That has a restricted range of channels but might give better reception.

Karen:

PVR means Programmable Video Recorder, so it can record programmes. There are many satellite receivers that also have a recording feature.

Ben:

You can load a Freeview App onto your phone. Then you can watch many channels but make sure you obey the TV License rules.

An aerial that was installed 7-8 years ago will be a Group A type and that is no longer suitable for reception from Crystal Palace. That 'old' aerial will not receive the Com 7 and COM8 multiplexes at all well. You definitely need a Group T or wideband aerial since the changes to the channels used at Crystal Palace.
