No HBB & Northants DAB mux from this site yet. What a disappointment Seems crazy that a big rural part of Herts gets a service from Epping Green straight away, while the biggest population centres of Hemel, St. Albans & Watford are stuck using FM/AM.

OFCOM grid ref data for this transmitter is completely wrong. The transmitter is located on top of the Veralum wing of the Hospital in Hillfield Road.

Hemel Hempstead (Hertfordshire, England) Full Freeview transmit
Thursday 26 December 2013 12:29PM
Hemel Hempstead

The only chance of getting all the BBC HD channels from Hemel (or indeed any Freeview transmitter) is if standard DVB is dropped in favour of DVB-T2. That would allow all the BBC HD channels to fit in the BBC A mux.

If the 700Mhz band is taken for 5G mobile in a few years, this will have to happen anyway.

The regional MXR muxes have closed in favour of more local ones being launched, & there is not enough space on existing muxes for all the stations.

However, it looks as if a Gold type station is due to launch on Digital One shortly, replacing Smooth Radio UK, which is moving to local DAB & AM.

Likewise here. Picking up the Surrey mux at 60% signal in Hemel Hempstead without an external aerial fitted.

The transmitting aerials are directional, & are lower down on the mast, so guess we are just lucky.

Dean:
From your reception map, the nearest transmitter to you is Haslingen (to your North East). This is a Freeview lite transmitter with only the PSB mux carried. The likelyhood is that your daughters TV has actually locked onto the Winter Hill main station, which carries all available Freeview muxes. Go out & have a look at your aerial (& where it's pointing). It would be worth getting the aerial checked anyway, but if it is pointing at Winter Hill (which is west of you), I would very much suspect an aerial problem, as with the ITV mux on Ch59 any aerial or downlead issues will show up first on this mux.

At long last HBB & Northants has arrived. Pity about the amount of duplicated services with London 1, 2 & 3, but at ;east I can get BBC 3CR now without resorting to FM.

Advance warning (700Mhz Clearance):

The latest details for this relay is that, along with the St. Albans relay, this will become a single frequency network with Hemel Hempstead (Bedmond) from March 2018 utilising channels 41, 44 & 47. Anyone using legacy analogue aerials will require them changing to wideband to continue using the relay effectively. (Information from the latest Television Viewers Guide).
