Freeview 2024?
Tuesday 25 September 2018 7:16PM

Interesting to read the varied comments to date. I had hoped that Freeview and Freesat would last and last for the foreseeable future.I have a Sky Q multiroom setup as well as multiroom freeview and freesat but I could manage without the Sky channels easily,it's because the Sky Q system is so easy to use, particularly recording, with a brilliant epg. DLNA needs to be promoted more for multiroom use for free.
Next year Gigaclear will be able to supply my south-devon village with 'true fibre' to my living room:BT has an Openreach fibre cabinet 1.1 miles away! Having 'true fibre' (300 Mbps for 45 pounds a month)will enable me to experiment with IPTV U-HD/4K programme content from global and national providers including uk broadcasters if they adapt fully to the need. I personally favour a 'combo' box approach for dvb-t/dvb-s/iptv reception,up to the forthcoming hdmi 2.1 standard to show off fully the benefits of 4K/8K HDR HLG etc. We shall see!
I am also hoping the two 'extra' freeview multiplexes will be increased in power when the 'final' freeview changes occur early next year 2019?

Hello Brian,
A great review:fair and very correct.
I bought a second hand French set top box and it had a fibre connection built in,
a lot of 'recent' British set top boxes still have legacy sockets:scart, old type 802.11n wifi
etc etc.
So I bought a new hdmi 2.1 Humax Aura freeview box to be forward compatible:I have to
switch it on and then switch it off and on again. The first time I switch it on I either get a
blank screen or no sound! I haven't bothered to try contacting Humax because I am so
disappointed!
I am so unimpressed with the E.P.G.,it is clever but not in the right way!
Sky Q E.P.G.was a joy whilst I paid for it.
Having a lot of Panasonic equipment I am a real fan of D.L.N.A. enabling me to watch in
a different room in full HD with Dolby Digital Plus surround sound where present originally.
Ah well I've taken ALL my 'recent' set top boxes to the tip today.Such is life.
It is so frustrating that even the latest 'freesat' boxes are still so dated.
Kind regards.

Very interesting to see the 'non advertised' Ofcom 'head' post being analyzed in order
for an honest and fair candidate who would be able to represent the needs of the people,
rather than the personal wishes of an (Eton boy) Tory Conservative Prime Minister.
The next Ofcom 'head' needs integrity, credibility and independent-wisdom.
