Bought a Freeview HD telly (Sony) recently, have a standard sky box/dish so was not too bothered about freeview other than the 4 free HD channels that would be available. I receive my signal from the Blackhill transmitter in Scotland and should receive the HD channels according to the postcode check. I plugged the cable into the wall socket and crossed my fingers. A Digital Auto Scan (full range) picked up the HD channels but they were more or less unwatchable. So I bought a signal booster and bingo all 4 HD channels came to life (without a re-scan) holding a strong signal quality and strength. After 3 days of glorious HD (forgot that I had a sky subscription :)) with no interuption in the HD channels at all, I accidently moved the signal booster (which was randomly placed near my front window in the first place) and suddenly all 4 HD channels have disappeared and have not come back. I unplugged, respositioned, manual scanned, auto scanned again and again, tried everything they just wont come back even the channel number i.e 50,51 has gone. Any advice would be appreciated?

vinyldj: Boosters won't help with digital reception, if there is no stable digital signal, a booster can't re-create one.

To be honest, you might just want to wait for Wednesday 22nd June 2011, when the high power signals start.

Bit hard to say more without a full postcode.

Yes, I agree. Looks like my HD channels are still holding quite well allbeit with a relatively poor signal strengh and quality. When the power increases I should be safe enough with what I have got by the looks of it. Going to invest in a decent Coax Male to Male cable though.

Thanks.

vinyldj: It is worth remembering that it is the signal QUALITY that is important, not the strength. Anything you can do to improve the quality reading will ensure that the reception is reliable when signal conditions are worst.

Clevedon

I live in Tickenham BS21 near Clevedon, North Somerset just 5 miles south of Bristol. I have always received BBC Points West the local news for decades. I have just retuned my Humax recorder as suggested in the manual and by John Lewis and find I am getting Spotlight from the South West, Cornwall etc local news. The other non retuned TVs in the house using the same aerial still get Points West. How can I get over this and what frequency/ transmitter etc,is Points West and how do I do it?

jojo: No, you can't. Local radio is carried on DAB, not on Freeview.
