John Baker:

Your post code as given is just 3 km from the Melling transmitter so you should have a very good signal, maybe too much? Please will you check what the signal strength reported by your TV set is forthe channels giving the problem. Ideally you want between 60% and 85% strength - anything more will cause the problems you report.

If the signal is too strong then you can insert an attenuator into the aerial feed, but don't let the weight of it 'hang' on the aerial socket but use a short flylead to connect it to the back of the set. Attenuators are quite cheap and can be bought from several on-line suppliers or the likes of Maplins.

Let us know if that helps, please.

Thank you MikeP. I have been otherwise engaged hence the delayed reply. I appear to be on the back lobe of Melling transmitter although with the use of a mast head amplifier this has not previoulsy been a problem. I take your point but I would be very surprised if my problem is being caused by too strong a signal, however I will seriosuly consider this.
I did a re-tune recently and thought the problem had gone away - which indeed it had for two days - but its back to pixilation and brek up again.

The problem with severe picture pixilation with the Independent Group of TV channels from Melling transmitter is being caused by the recemnt installation of a mobile phone 4G aerial system on the same mast. The 4G signal interferes with the ITV Group frequencies and can in theory be solved by inserting a filter, preferably on the TV aerial mast near the mast-head amplifier.
This problem has affected many viewers in the LA2 area but not all. It seems random who is affected and who is not. I am indebted to the engineers from Toobys of Ingleton who indentified the problem for me.

John Baker:

You should have been given a free 4G filter. Contacting @800 would have led to them supplying such free of charge. They are at https://at800.tv/.

This highlights the importance of giving all the relevant details, such as having an amplifier installed, as that aids us to 'faultfind' at a distance. Without the full knowledge of the installation and location as well as any recent changes, such as the provision of a 4G service from the same mast, it is hard for anyome remote to assist accurately. Further, s imple signal strength check using the facilities provided by your TV would have hinted as well.
