The symbol shows the location of the Divis (Northern Ireland) transmitter which serves 440,000 homes. The bright green areas shown where the signal from this transmitter is strong, dark green areas are poorer signals. Those parts shown in yellow may have interference on the same frequency from other masts.

Hi, I have followed all the advised procedures and it seems I am unable to receive ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 or E4 through free view. My Postcode is BT44 0BS and we are serviced by the Divis transmitter. I'm concerned that, with the digital switchover later this year, I will be unable to receive these channels at all. Is there a plan to strengthen the signals? Or is it just "sorry you can no longer see these major channels"? Thanks in advance. Jeff

Jeff Montgomery: Before switchover, the digital signals are weaker than the current analogue ones. After switchover, the digital signals will be strong enough to cover the same area as the current analogue.
Due to the low power digital, some people won't be able to receive them and some will be on the margin.
You might try manually adding the multiplex that carries the services you aren't getting. A multiplex is a signal that carries a basket of services.
Try going through the menu to the manual tune option (assuming it exists on your set) and tune to channel 33.

I have been thinking about going Freeview, but looking at the map it appears that at BT9 5HP there is no coverage from the transmitters. Am I correct in this, or just not interpreting the information correctly? Any help appreciated.

Richard Johnston: The Digital UK postcode checker predicts excellent reception from Divis should be possible at your location both now and after switchover. Reception from Divis requires an aerial pointing NW and mounted with the rods horizontal. If your aerial is set with the rods vertical and is pointing to Black Mountain you will have to wait until switchover for Freeview transmissions to begin. Good reception is predicted from Black Mountain, but only the three PSB muxes will be transmitted as Black Mountain is a Freeview light relay transmitter.

Thanks KMJ,Derby. What you say makes sense, it was just the way coverage looked on the map made me wonder about reception. Thanks again.

Hi All
With regards the DSO Divis.. rte has confirmed it will be live on the service. Also the divis transmitter is going to be very powerful indeed so if anybody is going to diy a new wideband areial i would suggest to move the aerial slightly off line or attenuation will be needed.

I've no idea what you're talking about Chris.
The proposed RTE mini mux will broadcast from the mast at Black Mountain, not Divis.

JOHN: You will still need a Freeview HD box, as the service will be broadcast using DVB-T2 mode.

"WHEN NORTHERN IRELAND GOES DIGITAL IN OCTOBER 2012 WILL RTE BE AVAILABLE ON FREEVIEW - I CANNOT CURRENTLY OBTAIN RTE ON FREEVIEW.
MY CURRENT DIGITAL TV HAS MPEG4"
The proposed mini RTE mux will broadcast from transmitters at Black Mountain, Brougher Mountain, and Carnmoney Hill.
After 24th October 2012, Saorview from clermont cairn will have the null to the north removed and many areas that currently receive analogue transmissions only, should get a decent signal from Saorview. Note that Clermont Cairn Saorview transmissions also change from channel 53 to 52 on that date.
Brian: I'm not sure if this is the case with Saorview as I was led to believe the SD transmissions were simply MPEG4 and could be received by an MPEG4 capable receiver (e.g. the Picnic box). I'm not sure if the proposed NI mini mux conform to these standards.
You are correct that a UK Freeview HD box will receive Saorview. However, there could be EPG issues, and I've read elsewhere that one box (the new Technisat) has problems with RTE channels (but not the others). There should be no such issues with the NI mini mux as the EPG will conform to UK Frreeview standards.
If you are out of range of the NI min mux or border transmitters John, your only other solution is Saorsat, or a Sky subscription.
